‘Enjoy the new role of night watchman’: Sachin Tendulkar’s message for proud father Ajinkya Rahane
Soon after the Indian cricket team registered a 203-run win over South Africa in the 1st Test at Visakhapatnam, middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane had another reason to celebrate as his wife Radhika gave birth to a baby girl. The news broke out on Day 4 of the Test when India were in the driver’s seat with a commanding lead over the Proteas. Wishes have been pouring in ever since as Rahane and his wife have become parents for the first time. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who is known for his unique sense of humour, took to social media to congratulate Rahane with a cheeky wish.
“Many Congratulations, Radhika and Ajinkya. The joy of being parents to your first child is unparalleled. Soak it in! Enjoy playing the new role of a night watchman changing the diapers,” Sachin Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.
Rahane has joined the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh who have all been blessed with daughters in the past. While Dhoni’s daughter Ziva was born in 2015, Harbhajan’s daughter was born on July 27, 2016, and they named her Hinaya Heer Plaha. Raina also became a father in the year 2016 after the birth of his daughter Gracia.
On the professional front, Rahane rediscovered his form on the tour to the West Indies, where he scored a century after going without a ton in 17 Tests. There was a lot of focus on Rahane considering he is also India’s vice-captain in the five-day format. Rahane lived up to the expectations as he scored 81 and 102 runs respectively in the Antigua Test. Recalling the century, Rahane had said, “You get to learn from every match and every series and I had to wait for two years, 17 Tests, for my Test debut and for this century (in West Indies) I had to wait for 17 Tests. I think there was some co-ordination.”
