“Rohit is a smarter player than he was a couple of years ago” : Sachin
Rohit Sharma has been in sensational form in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. On Tuesday, he became only the 2nd batsman to score 4 hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup when he smashed 104 against Bangladesh in Birmingham.
Rohit’s 26th ODI hundred helped India beat Bangladesh by 28 runs and book a berth in the semi-finals. Virat Kohli was in awe of his vice-captain and branded him the best one-day player in the world.
Like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar also heaped rich praise on Rohit Sharma and said he is now more matured as a batsman and understands his game very well. “Rohit was playing chess with Bangladesh. he knew where they were going to bowl to him,” Sachin Tendulkar told India Today.
Rohit was dropped on 9 by Tamim Iqbal and he made Bangladesh pay. He has been dropped on several occasions so far in this World Cup and Rohit Sharma has capitalised in style.
Sachin Tendulkar said teams could not afford to drop chances offered by someone as classy as Rohit Sharma.
“Catches win you matches – you cannot drop someone like Rohit. He has consistently proven that if he is not feeling too great at the start of his innings, that’s when you can get him out,” Tendulkar said.
“The way Rohit Sharma has batted in this tournament… Everyone needs luck from time to time. He understands his batting, when to pace himself and when to rotate the strike. He is a smarter player than he was a couple of years ago. He is more matured and understands his game much better now,” Tendulkar said.
